Rosmarinus pictures

August 12, 2011

Well the new flat is now up and running and we’ve had the first few guests in. We’ve only been able to take a few quick pictures, more coming when we get the chance.
Bookings are coming in very quickly for 2012 but we do have some vacancies this September and October.

Our new self-catering flat Rosemarinus

May 27, 2011

We’ve nearly finished refurbishing a three-bedroom flat, an annex to Mincarlo Guest House. Situated at the side of the house, the flat has access to the front terrace with fantastic views across St Mary’s harbour & out to sea.
The lounge/dining area has patio doors that open out to a view down the side of Mincarlo & towards the harbour. There is a TV, DVD player, stereo with ipod dock, board games, books & tourist information. The flat has a spacious, well-equipped kitchen.
Upstairs there is one double bedroom with view towards Town Beach, the harbour & Garrison; one twin/double; and one twin looking out over our own veg plot & up to Carn Thomas Rocks (the beds in this room can be made into bunks if required, to make space for a third bed or cot). There is one bathroom with bath (& shower over), toilet & washbasin, & a separate second toilet with washbasin. The flat is being decorated with eco friendly Earthborn paints, bamboo & seagrass flooring, and furnished with reclaimed & locally crafted furniture.
Bryony is hard at work on the sewing machine making curtains, blinds & canvas cushion covers for the sofa.
We can provide a cot & highchair for families, and there are buckets & spades, a wetsuit hanging/drying area & ample space to store hire bikes.
We include a hamper of basic provisions such as muesli/cereals, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, olive oil & bread.

Cooked breakfasts will be available to pre-order from the b&b on most days at £5 each.

Rosemarinus will be available for Weds-Weds bookings, from 22th June onwards. Introductory rates for 2011 are:

June – 31st Aug – £900
31st Aug – 5th Oct – £750
5th Oct onwards – £600

A deposit of £300 is payable at the time of booking, and the balance is due at the end of your stay.

Group holidays

February 7, 2011

I thought it would be good to feature some of the groups that stay at Mincarlo. The first is Swimtrek who have been coming since 2003. They’re always a fantastic bunch and spend five days swimming island to island. You obviously have to be a good swimmer but Bryony and I have joined in with lots of their swims over the years and have been surprised at how well we’ve done.

See details of the trips to Scilly here.

Nick’s Triathlon

the finish line

The first Tresco Triathlon was held on 11th July this year. I only heard about it a few weeks before but as I’ve wanted to do a triathlon for a while I decided to give it a go. It consisted of a swim of  about 0.3 miles across New Grimsby harbour, two laps of a 3.5 mile bike route, largely off-road and a 3 mile run.

There were 32 competitors, most of whom had never done a triathlon, indeed one couldn’t swim a month ago! It was very hard work but I think everyone was really pleased with themselves. The winner finished in just under and hour, I came in 7th with a time of 69 minutes and the last person finished in under 90 minutes.

It was a brilliantly organised day and all in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Folk festival

April 19, 2010

It was a few weeks ago now but the Scilly Folk Festival was fantastic. The house was full of musicians for nearly a week (lovely people all of them) and we got to hear some beautiful music even before we got to the gigs as they rehearsed. This photo is of James Sills recording a trombone part in our dining room for John Elliot’s forthcoming CD.

We’re open!

March 29, 2010

Well it was a mad rush as always but we did it. We still have a bit more to do before we fill up on Wednesday 31st. It’s always good to be open for the new season as the house feels so empty over the winter.

The garden wall is now sparkling white in the occasional ray of sunshine we’ve had in the last week. The lovely new beds and mattresses are in place as well as many other little improvements we’ve made and we think the house is looking really good.

There are plenty of people about for the WalkScilly festival and we’re looking forward to the Folk Festival which starts on Wednesday. Our band Six Wet Fish are playing at the weekend and we have most of the visiting musicians staying with us which will be great.

Hopefully more pictures soon as we’re getting a decent new camera.

Getting ready for the new season

March 16, 2010

Every year we have a bit of a mad panic to get ready for the new season and this year is no different!

The biggest job has been replacing the main guesthouse kitchen (pictures coming soon) but we also have a lot of new beds, mattresses and bedside tables (from Warren Evans an ethical business). Hopefully there are new sofas and chairs on tonight’s Gry (it can be a bit of a mammoth task getting things here) and many other smaller additions and upgrades around the place.

Our new gardener

March 16, 2010

Roy painting the garden wall

Some of you may recognise our new gardener from the picture above. It’s Roy Duncan (Bryony’s dad) who has retired from boating having sold the Golden Spray after the 2009 season. Whereas guests used to see him every morning at breakfast as he brought the day’s boating information they will now see him tending the garden and doing some odd jobs around the place.

His first task was to paint the garden walls which were getting rather grubby. We’re continuing to use Ecos Organic Paint (website) which we’ve been really impressed with so far inside the house.
